Some have used OpenRouter data to interpret the "rising market share of Chinese models," but this repost offers a reminder: OpenRouter only covers a fraction of overall AI usage. It serves merely as a directional signal and cannot be directly extrapolated to represent the entire market.
However, these charts do highlight one thing: the usage share of open-weight models is rising. In this sense, it acts more like a "canary in a coal mine," signaling that the industry is shifting toward open models.
