RSI Economics Paper Released

CFGeek · x · 2026-07-14

This share introduces the inaugural paper from the Elasticity Institute: "The Economics of Recursive Self-Improvement."

The paper formalizes arguments around RSI (Recursive Self-Improvement) into a set of feedback loops: whether stronger AI improves AI research efficiency, thereby accelerating future AI progress, which in turn accelerates itself. The author emphasizes whether this positive feedback will "explode" depends on the loop's strength, rather than the mere existence of a closed loop guaranteeing exponential runaway.

The second part of the paper aggregates existing evidence, provides a rough calibration, and outlines a wishlist for future evidence to more accurately measure RSI-related effects.
