Three Questions for AI Research and Policy

This post outlines a three-part framework, arguing that AI discussions should focus on three aspects simultaneously:
- Capabilities and technical trajectories: Looking at how capabilities actually evolve in the real world, rather than just discussing abstractly.
- Positive social impact: How existing systems and incentives will respond to AI and the outcomes they produce.
- Normative and policy engineering: Designing pathways to leverage AI's positive aspects for human flourishing while mitigating severe global issues.
The core argument is that all three tracks must advance in parallel, and action must be taken immediately.
