Copilot Can Diagnose Lag But Devours Memory
mkheck · x · 2026-07-13
Microsoft's Windows 11 Copilot can now tell you what is slowing down your PC, but it itself can consume up to 1GB of memory when idle. It also carries its own private copy of Edge within the app, displaying as "Browser" in the Task Manager.
The author's point: using a background process with high resource overhead and a hidden embedded browser to diagnose performance issues feels highly ironic. The article also mentions that Task Manager can already handle this type of work, and is much lighter and more direct.
