OpenAI Codex has increased its auto-compaction baseline from roughly 262K to 353K. Although GPT-5.6 currently supports a 1M context window, lengthy browser/computer automation tasks introduce massive amounts of useless accessibility tree markup. This can distract the model, worsen compaction loss, and impact accuracy.

The author suggests that for token-intensive automation tasks, you can configure modelautocompacttokenlimit=900000 to individually raise the compaction threshold for specific project folders, balancing performance and cost.
