When Does AI Truly Become a Science?

The author argues that physics became a science when it started making bold predictions about reality; similarly, AI will become a true science only when theories of intelligence can predict phenomena before models exist.
He adds that he just returned from ICML, where in a keynote at the Foundation of Deep Generative Models Workshop, he emphasized that intelligence should be studied as a serious scientific object like modern physics, rather than remaining at an empirical, metaphysical, or overly formal but unexplanatory level for long.
