Model Selection Advice for Coding Agents
aadityabuilds · x · 2026-07-12
This post offers a set of model usage recommendations for agentic coding:
- Models below Sol High can be skipped.
- If you want the same or better performance at a lower cost, prioritize Luna and increase the reasoning/effort level.
- Terra Ultra is only worth using when its peak capabilities are genuinely needed.
- The author believes the extra cost of Sol Ultra is generally not as cost-effective as Max.
The conclusion is that for agentic coding tasks, Luna with high effort often covers lower-tier needs, and stronger models are only necessary for extreme high-performance requirements.
