Google Open-Sources Document Extraction Tool LangExtract

Google has released and open-sourced LangExtract, a tool for extracting structured data from messy text. Marketed as free and open-source, it allegedly rivals or even outperforms six-figure enterprise extraction software. It pinpoints exact source text locations for each extracted field, supports long documents of 100+ pages, and generates interactive HTML for manual verification. It can be used with Gemini or local models.
The poster outlined its real-world enterprise applications (invoice/PO processing, customer feedback categorization, ticket root cause analysis, SOP updates, legal clause risk summarization, financial report KPI extraction). They also noted that by 2026, companies won't pay top dollar simply for "text extraction" itself, but rather for integrating extraction into actionable, time-saving AI/data workflows.
