Schmidt: AI Will Hit a Capital Wall Before an Energy Wall

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt argues that the true bottleneck limiting AI development is capital, not energy. He estimates that roughly $50 billion is needed per gigawatt of compute, meaning 10 GW would require $500 billion—leaving very few industry players capable of trillion-dollar investments. He noted that China "can definitely do it" and plans to verify if they are currently investing at scale, highlighting the capital ceiling problem in AI scaling.
