Researchers have analyzed the issue of consciousness in AI systems. He pointed out that although the J space in his model and Global Workspace Theory (GWT) share the same "dictionary", what really changes is the active sparse content, which is different from the persistent workspace assumed by GWT. The "ignition and broadcast" mechanism in his model is also fundamentally different from GWT's mechanism based on competitive access, limited-capacity global availability, and global broadcast to numerous specialized systems. At the same time, he emphasized that GWT should not be regarded as the "standard answer" for judging whether a system has sentience.
