Gemini Agent Autonomously Discovers 13.4-Billion-Year-Old Galaxy

Over the weekend, the author used a Gemini 3.5 Flash agent paired with the Antigravity harness to identify a candidate galaxy roughly 13.4 billion years old (redshift z=12.69) from JWST data. The entire process was fully automated: the agent retrieved JADES survey data, applied the Lyman-break dropout technique, extracted only the necessary data slices, filtered out brown dwarfs and low-redshift galaxies from a pool of 1,000 objects, and subsequently drafted a paper.
Although this galaxy had been previously discovered, the agent was completely unaware of it. This stands as a compelling demonstration of an agent autonomously conducting scientific discovery.
