Conversely, the incentives for memory infrastructure are almost the exact opposite: it persists state and retrieves only key facts, rather than regenerating context or sending massive tokens every time.
Thus, the author posits that as agents move towards production, enterprises will care more about the "cost per completed task" rather than the "number of tokens consumed." They wonder whether memory infrastructure is merely a feature of agent frameworks, or if it will evolve into an independent AI infrastructure layer, much like how databases are independent from application frameworks.
