Google SynthID: Embedding Invisible Watermarks in AI Content

SynthID embeds watermarks the moment images, audio, text, or video are generated. These watermarks are not post-added or strippable metadata; instead, they exist directly within the pixels, waveforms, and word choices.
The article notes that deepfake detectors lose up to half their accuracy outside the lab, leaving detection efforts lagging behind. Consequently, DeepMind has pivoted to this difficult-to-remove embedded watermark approach.
