Rising AI Tool Prices Risk Creating a New Digital Divide
kylegawley · x · 2026-07-05
A blogger points out that the tech industry used to be a platform where anyone could change their destiny with a computer. However, as AI tools become ubiquitous and token prices rise, the ability to afford usage fees will directly determine personal competitiveness. This issue is particularly severe in countries with weaker purchasing power, where local professionals will increasingly struggle to afford the ongoing costs of AI tools. The author argues that unless AI vendors introduce purchasing power parity (PPP) pricing, AI will create a new wave of inequality, urging developers to build products quickly while prices remain low.
