Mayo Clinic AI Detects Pancreatic Cancer 16 Months Early

The AI model REDMOD developed by Mayo Clinic can analyze routine CT scans previously deemed "normal" by radiologists. Results show that among patients later diagnosed, REDMOD identified 73% of silently developing cancers, spotting them up to 16 months before clinical diagnosis. Pancreatic cancer has a high mortality rate, with 85% of cases discovered only after spreading, and a five-year survival rate below 15%. Projected to become the second deadliest cancer in the US by 2030, early detection is critical.
