White House Advisor: US Won't Regulate AI, Fears China's Open-Source Lead

The FT reports that outgoing White House AI advisor Sriram Krishnan stated the US will not establish an AI regulatory agency. The policy applies selective pressure on cyber risks rather than building a broad licensing system, expecting companies, chipmakers, security firms, and intelligence agencies to shoulder most of the burden.
Krishnan emphasized that Americans need to visibly share in the dividends of AI, or dissatisfaction will continue to grow. He also expressed concern that the current leading open-weight models come from China, while the US does not yet possess a leading open-weight model.
