What it signals
The 7-day figures show a clear gap between the global and Chinese labs. The 15 global companies with additions added 290 roles between them over seven days. The five Chinese labs with additions added 13 (StepFun 4, ByteDance Doubao/Seed 4, Baidu AI 2, MiniMax (Hailuo) 2, ModelBest (面壁智能) 1). Chinese labs also carry some of the largest standing boards, with ByteDance at 870 and Baidu at 471, so a low add rate does not mean small organizations. It does mean their boards are changing slowly this week. Zhipu AI (智谱 AI) shows 237 open and StepFun 231, with additions of 0 and 4 respectively.
Among global labs, the load is concentrated in the frontier-model companies. OpenAI added 58 roles and Anthropic 52, followed by Meta AI at 36 and Google DeepMind at 33. The cause cannot be read from this data. Large boards such as Microsoft AI's may simply be holding, and the small ones may be fully staffed. A longer window would be needed to tell a pause from a steady state.
Today's data is a quiet day with closures only. The pattern worth watching is whether ByteDance's 23 closures continue in the coming days, or whether new postings follow to replace them.
