Today at a glance

  • Classified and quantum work inside Microsoft: Microsoft AI posted 47 new roles today (211 over the past week) but also closed 71 — a net pullback even as it leads the field on volume — and two of the day's adds, Technical Program Manager - CTJ - Poly and Principal Technical Program Manager - CTJ - TS/SCI, point to classified government contracting, alongside a Principal Technical Program Manager - Quantum based in Copenhagen.
  • OpenAI keeps building its own silicon: New postings include an ASIC Package SI/PI Engineer, a Hardware Strategic Sourcing & Manufacturing Partnerships Manager in Singapore and a Hardware Finance Manager, all sitting under the Scaling and Strategic Finance orgs, alongside two OpenAI for Gov roles (Strategic Delivery Lead, DoW CDAO; Head of Technical Success, Government) in Washington, DC.
  • Anthropic expands the enterprise front internationally: 19 additions today (89 over 7 days) split between Applied AI roles in Munich, London, Mumbai, Bangalore, Tokyo and Singapore, and three Community Engagement Manager, Data Centres postings covering Australia, Canada and Texas — sales groundwork and compute-site groundwork advancing together.
  • NVIDIA leans further into robotics: Eight additions include a Robotics Research Engineer, Robot Simulation and Evaluation, a Senior Technical Program Manager – Humanoid Robotics Operations, and a Technical Marketing Engineer, Robotics role specifically for China.
  • China's tracked labs keep contracting: 01.AI (Yi) closed 16 roles against a single intern-level addition, ByteDance Doubao/Seed added 5 while closing 11, and Meituan LongCat closed 4 with no new postings — a consolidation pattern that stands out against global labs' net weekly growth.

Company moves

OpenAI: 12 additions today, part of 65 over the week, exactly offset by 12 closures. New roles cluster around custom silicon (ASIC Package SI/PI Engineer; Hardware Strategic Sourcing & Manufacturing Partnerships Manager, Singapore; Hardware Finance Manager) and around OpenAI for Gov (Strategic Delivery Lead, DoW CDAO; Head of Technical Success, Government), both in Washington, DC.

Anthropic: The largest mover among the global labs today — 19 additions, 89 over 7 days, only 7 closures. Applied AI hiring spans Munich, London, Mumbai, Bangalore, Tokyo and Singapore, while three Community Engagement Manager, Data Centres roles (Australia, Canada, Texas) signal new compute sites entering the community-relations stage.

Google DeepMind (谷歌 DeepMind): A small, pointed pair — Research Scientist, Safety Oversight and Chief of Staff, GeminiApp UX, both in Mountain View — against modest volume (2 added, 3 closed).

Microsoft AI: Highest single-day count in the dataset at 47 additions (211 over 7 days) but also the heaviest closures, 71 today. Bulk volume comes from Cloud Solution Architecture, Customer Experience Engineering and Solution Area Specialist roles across India, the US and EMEA, with the CTJ-cleared and Quantum postings noted above standing out from the pattern.

Meta AI: Three additions, including a Research Scientist Intern, AI, Cyber Security, Safety — MSL Trust & Safety seat in Menlo Park — a small but explicit safety-research signal.

NVIDIA: Eight additions weighted toward robotics — Robotics Research Engineer, Robot Simulation and Evaluation; Senior Technical Program Manager, Humanoid Robotics Operations; Technical Marketing Engineer, Robotics - China — plus a Senior Deep Learning Engineer, 4D Foundation Model role in Shanghai.

Apple AIML (苹果 AIML): Three additions, all within Machine Learning and AI — two Senior AI Software Engineer, App Intelligence seats in the Bay Area and a Senior Engineer, Health AIML in Cupertino.

SpaceXAI: Eight additions, again weighted toward data-center build-out — technicians and an OSP Engineer in Memphis/Southaven, a Civil Engineer for battery storage in Memphis, and a new Data Center Operations Technician role in Atlanta — plus a Threat Intelligence Analyst, Threat Disruption in London and three hospitality hires (Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, Cook) in Palo Alto supporting campus growth.

Cohere: Five additions skewed toward new-geography go-to-market — Account Executive, META and Solutions Architect - UAE, both in Dubai; a Forward Deployed Engineer, Infrastructure Specialist (France); and a Technical Program Manager, AI Delivery covering the US and Canada.

Together AI: Three additions, two of them Staff Software Engineer, Inference / Compute Infrastructure Engineering roles (India, Amsterdam) plus a Manager, International Cloud Sourcing — continued inference-capacity scaling.

Cerebras: Two additions, both finance/audit (Accounting Manager; Head of SOX Internal Audit) — back-office rather than technical hiring today.

Baidu AI (百度 AI): Six additions, including 国际化用户增长产品经理-AI大模型方向 (International User Growth Product Manager, AI Foundation-Model) and 汽车行业 AI 落地解决方案架构师 (Automotive Industry AI Deployment Solutions Architect) — continued push into overseas markets and auto-industry deployment.

ByteDance Doubao/Seed (字节跳动豆包/Seed): Five additions against 11 closures, net negative again, with new roles concentrated in recommendation and dialogue-model engineering — 大模型推荐算法工程师(交互式推荐方向) (LLM Recommendation Algorithm Engineer, Interactive Recommendation) and 智能对话大模型算法工程师 (Intelligent Dialogue LLM Algorithm Engineer) for TikTok and TikTok Shop.

MiniMax (Hailuo) (MiniMax 海螺): One addition, 高可用架构师 (High-Availability Architect) — infrastructure reliability rather than model research.

01.AI (Yi) (零一万物): The sharpest contraction in the dataset — 16 closures against one addition, 开发实习生 - 绿洲 (Development Intern - Oasis) — a visible pipeline wind-down.

Scale AI: No additions today but four closures, in a light week (5 added over 7 days).

Meituan LongCat (美团·龙猫): No additions today but four closures, against just 2 added over the past week.

The remaining tracked labs — Perplexity, Mistral AI, Cursor, Lovable, Pika Labs, Aleph Alpha, Genmo, Moonshot AI (月之暗面 Kimi), DeepSeek (深度求索), Zhipu AI (智谱 AI), StepFun (阶跃星辰), ModelBest (面壁智能), Tencent Hunyuan (腾讯混元), SenseTime SenseNova (商汤日日新) and Alibaba Tongyi Qwen (阿里通义千问) — showed no change today.

What it signals

The 7-day totals make the global/China gap explicit: the 19 global-region labs added 543 roles over the week, versus 72 across the 13 China-region labs tracked — roughly 7.5x. Microsoft AI's weekly total alone (211) is nearly three times the entire China cohort combined, and a handful of pure model labs — DeepSeek, Zhipu AI and Alibaba Tongyi Qwen — show zero net postings for the full week. That doesn't necessarily mean no hiring is happening at those labs, but it does mean their public pipelines have been flat for seven straight days, a sharp contrast to the constant churn at the largest global labs.

A second pattern is the pairing of infrastructure and go-to-market hiring at the same labs in the same window. Anthropic is adding Applied AI roles across six cities while simultaneously staffing Community Engagement Manager, Data Centres positions in three countries — enterprise expansion and physical build-out moving in lockstep. Microsoft shows a similar duality at larger scale: cloud/customer-facing roles dominate volume, while a small number of classified and quantum postings suggest deeper government and research bets sitting underneath the commercial layer. OpenAI's hardware trio (ASIC, sourcing, finance) reinforces that its vertical-integration push into custom silicon is an ongoing organizational commitment, not a one-off requisition, and it's running in parallel with the buildout of its government-facing OpenAI for Gov team.

Robotics is a distinct, if smaller, thread this week — NVIDIA's humanoid-robotics operations and simulation roles, plus a China-specific robotics marketing hire, indicate physical-world AI investment continuing alongside the language- and agent-model work that dominates most labs' listings. Volumes here (8 additions at NVIDIA, 3 at Apple) remain modest next to the hundreds being added for cloud and enterprise roles, suggesting robotics is still a targeted bet rather than a broad hiring priority for most labs.

For the China cohort, the dominant theme this week is consolidation rather than growth. 01.AI's 16 closures against a single intern add, and ByteDance's continued net-negative day (5 added, 11 closed) despite holding the largest open-role count in the entire dataset at 954, both point to selective backfilling rather than expansion. Baidu and MiniMax added a handful of internationally- and infrastructure-oriented roles, but the overall weekly volume — 72 net additions across 13 labs — suggests Chinese AI labs are hiring far more cautiously than their global counterparts at this point in the cycle.
