AI Hiring Brief · 2026-08-09
32 frontier AI labs · 50 roles added in 24h · agihunt.info/en/jobs
Today at a glance
- OpenAI moves toward physical hardware: Two new Research postings — Actuator Gear Design Engineer and Actuator Electromagnetic Design Engineer — sit alongside a Researcher, Recursive Self-Improvement Safety, pairing actuator-level hardware work with a safety hire aimed squarely at self-improving systems.
- SpaceXAI floods Human Data with language coverage: All 19 of SpaceXAI's new roles today are "AI Tutor" positions under Human Data, spanning languages from Slovak, Romanian and Ukrainian to Khmer, Yoruba and Igbo — a broad multilingual data-labeling push rather than research hiring.
- Anthropic layers infrastructure, privacy and security: New roles include Staff+ Software Engineer, Infrastructure (Distributed Systems), Staff+ Software Engineer, Privacy, and a GSOC Response & Policy Program Specialist in Security, alongside product-facing hires like Staff Software Engineer, Claude Code.
- ByteDance Doubao/Seed contracts sharply: 80 roles closed today with zero additions, against only 9 net additions over the past 7 days — the largest single-day contraction among all companies tracked.
- Physical AI threads appear on both sides of the Pacific: Scale AI posted an Operations Program Manager/Associate, Industrial Partnerships – Robotics under Physical AI Operations, while ModelBest (面壁智能) added a 基础安全工程师 (Foundational Security Engineer) — robotics and safety hires surfacing at one US and one China lab respectively.
Company moves
OpenAI: 5 new roles today (72 over 7 days), 4 closures. Beyond the actuator and safety hires noted above, two Support Program Manager roles (Live Support, Partnerships) point to user-operations scaling running in parallel with hardware R&D.
Anthropic: 8 new roles today (32 over 7 days), 4 closures. Alongside the infrastructure and privacy engineering roles, an Applied AI Architect, Enterprise Tech and an AI Fluency Education Lead suggest continued investment in enterprise adoption and training.
Google DeepMind (谷歌 DeepMind): just 1 new role today (28 over 7 days), no closures — a GenAI Technical Engagement Lead in Mountain View, a customer-facing rather than research posting.
Microsoft AI (微软 AI): the largest volume on the board — 8 additions against 24 closures today, but 252 net additions over 7 days, still the biggest 7-day gain of any company tracked. New postings cluster in Software Engineering (several Senior/Principal Software Engineer roles in Redmond and Mountain View) plus a Principal Product Manager, Azure Core.
Meta AI: 1 new role today (13 over 7 days), 2 closures — a Research Scientist, ML H/W-SW Codesign in Sunnyvale spanning AI Research, Facebook Reality Labs and AR/VR, tying hardware-software codesign to its reality-labs hardware line.
NVIDIA (英伟达): 4 new roles today (48 over 7 days), 4 closures — a Senior Mixed Signal Design Engineer in Santa Clara sits next to a Senior Solution Engineer, Networking and a Senior Account Manager Lead, Walmart, mixing silicon design with enterprise sales.
Apple AIML (苹果 AIML): 2 new roles today (18 over 7 days), 1 closure — a Generative AI Applied Scientist, SIML - ISE and an AIML Privacy & Compliance Data Strategy Lead, Evaluation, pairing GenAI application work with privacy governance.
SpaceXAI: 19 new roles today (42 over 7 days), 3 closures — entirely the AI Tutor language cohort described above, its biggest single-day posting volume among all companies today.
Scale AI: 1 new role today (11 over 7 days), 5 closures — the Physical AI Operations robotics role is its clearest signal this window even as overall headcount churns.
ModelBest (面壁智能): 1 new role today (16 over 7 days) — the 基础安全工程师 (Foundational Security Engineer) posting in Beijing's 开发 (Development) team is a rare safety-titled opening among China's labs this week.
Meituan LongCat (美团·龙猫): no additions today but 1 closure, against just 1 net addition over 7 days — essentially flat.
ByteDance Doubao/Seed (字节跳动豆包/Seed): 80 closures today with zero additions, against only 9 net additions over 7 days — by far the sharpest contraction among the 32 companies tracked this window.
Perplexity, Mistral AI, Cursor, Lovable, Cohere, Together AI, Cerebras, Pika Labs, Aleph Alpha, Genmo, Moonshot AI (月之暗面 Kimi), DeepSeek (深度求索), Zhipu AI (智谱 AI), StepFun (阶跃星辰), Baidu AI (百度 AI), Tencent Hunyuan (腾讯混元), MiniMax (Hailuo) (MiniMax 海螺), 01.AI (Yi) (零一万物), SenseTime SenseNova (商汤日日新) and Alibaba Tongyi Qwen (阿里通义千问) showed no net change today.
What it signals
The 7-day figures show a lopsided week: across the 32 companies tracked, the global labs added roughly 557 net roles versus about 70 for the China-based group, and Microsoft AI's 252 alone accounts for nearly half of the global total. That gap says less about ambition than about where each side is in its hiring cycle right now — several China labs (DeepSeek, Zhipu AI, Tencent Hunyuan, Alibaba Tongyi Qwen) posted zero net movement over the full week, while ByteDance Doubao/Seed's 80-role closure today, against only 9 net additions over 7 days, points to active headcount rationalization rather than a pause.
Hardware keeps surfacing as a throughline among the global labs. OpenAI's two actuator-design postings and Meta's ML H/W-SW Codesign research scientist role both point toward physical-systems work sitting inside labs better known for software research, while NVIDIA's mixed-signal design engineer and Apple's generative AI applied scientist show silicon and on-device AI hiring continuing in parallel with each company's core software teams. None of this is enough data to call a coordinated pivot, but it is a second straight window where hardware-adjacent titles appear at more than one lab simultaneously.
Anthropic's posting mix this week is worth flagging on its own: infrastructure (distributed systems), privacy, and security roles appearing together suggest platform-hardening work is a current priority, distinct from the more product- and growth-oriented postings (Claude Code, Applied AI Architect) also on the list. That combination — hardening the base while still building outward-facing product and enterprise capability — is a pattern rather than a single hire.
On the data-and-safety side, SpaceXAI's 19-role, all-language AI Tutor cohort is this week's largest single push in raw count, and it is entirely a data-operations expansion rather than a research or engineering one. Set against ModelBest's lone but pointed 基础安全工程师 posting and OpenAI's recursive self-improvement safety researcher, safety-titled roles remain a small but persistent thread in the data — appearing in low single digits, but showing up at labs on both sides of the Pacific in the same week.
