IBM Tests 450 RAG Configurations: Individual Gains Don't Stack

IBM's LASAGNA study evaluated 450 RAG pipeline configurations across 8 benchmarks and corpus sizes from 5K to 200K documents. It found that gains measured in isolation fail to predict combined performance, as stacking techniques sharply diminishes benefits.
