ChatGPT Mobile Now Lets You Create dot Agents
On October 10, OpenAI announced several updates to ChatGPT's personalized dot agents, the biggest being that the iOS and Android ChatGPT apps now let you create dots directly on your phone instead of desktop only.
Confirmed
- Mobile users can create dots in-app, edit their names, customize avatars, and set a dot as the first conversation they see when opening the app (official post m2).
- The dot–Codex integration has been upgraded: you can assign work directly in Codex, follow up on existing threads, and use ChatGPT conversation history, Codex threads, and automations as context; OpenAI says it's better at deciding when to continue an existing thread versus starting a new one (m3, m4).
- Improvements relayed by OpenAI engineer dkundel also include better thread-control tools (m4); engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux noted dots can be created in the mobile app and interact with via SMS (m5).
- Official docs live at learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots (m2).
Why it matters
- dot has evolved from a desktop tool into an anywhere mobile and SMS entry point, letting users direct agents remotely from mobile scenarios.
- With Codex integration and shared context, dot can take on persistent cross-conversation, cross-thread tasks — @VraserX sees OpenAI pushing dots from a simple chat assistant toward a fuller personal-agent form.
