Apple Launches Rebuilt Siri AI Powered by Apple Intelligence in English Beta
Apple officially launched its next-generation Apple Intelligence-powered Siri on September 15, calling it the biggest rebuild in Siri's history. It rolled out the same day as an English beta, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish coming next month; higher AI usage limits will cost extra.
Confirmed
- New capabilities: personal context understanding, on-screen awareness, broad world knowledge, system-level app actions, multimodal ability, and persistent cross-device conversations (as relayed by ChrisGPT, imjustnewatai, dotey).
- Personal data understanding: Siri can connect information across Mail, Messages and Photos, e.g. finding a family recipe in a text thread — highlighted by @dotey as the biggest improvement.
- Model disclosure: Apple also unveiled AFM Core Advanced (ChrisGPT).
- Image editing: @aitrendzxyz tested the iOS 27 photo Clean Up feature, removing passersby, signage and shadows in seconds — Apple Intelligence applied to system-level image editing.
Unconfirmed
- @TrungTPhan (relayed by aitrendzxyz) reported a rumor that the new Siri uses Gemini distillation; this is unconfirmed.
Why it matters
- This is Apple Intelligence's most important rollout yet, turning Siri from a voice assistant into an agent with on-screen visual understanding and context from Photos, Contacts and Calendar.
- Staged language rollout plus paid usage limits signal the initial shape of Apple's AI monetization model.
