Zhipu Raises $5 Billion, Betting 60% on Self-Training GLM

On September 13, Zhipu (Z.ai) disclosed a $5 billion financing plan on HKEX, only about nine months after its Hong Kong listing. The deal comprises a $2 billion H-share placement at HK$714 per share and $3 billion in zero-coupon convertible bonds (initial conversion price HK$892.50, a 25% premium), with expected net proceeds of HK$39.3 billion. About 60% (HK$23.5 billion) is earmarked for next-generation GLM foundation models and a fully self-training recursive self-improvement (RSI) system, with the rest for compute infrastructure and domestic chip adaptation.
