Study Finds Roughly a Quarter of NBER Working Papers Contain AI-Generated Text

Economist Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham used the AI detection model Pangram to analyze NBER working papers, finding that about a quarter contain AI-generated text, with the share reaching 32% in the productivity, innovation and entrepreneurship program. The findings have prompted calls for norms on human writing in economics.
