Taiwan Indicts 9 for Smuggling Nvidia B300 Servers to China
Prosecutors in Keelung, Taiwan have indicted nine people, including an Nvidia employee and two former Super Micro Taiwan staff, for allegedly conspiring to illegally ship servers powered by Nvidia B300 AI chips to China. According to prosecutors, the defendants falsified documents claiming that 130 servers would remain in Taiwan, when in fact 74 ended up in China. These chips have been covered by the US export ban on China since 2022.
Confirmed
- Those indicted: 9 people, including a senior Nvidia manager (who personally signed off on the release of B300 GPUs) and Super Micro employees.
- Scale of smuggling: 74 B300 servers ultimately reached China.
- Prosecutors' allegation: the defendants knowingly violated export controls, driven by "huge profits."
Not Yet Confirmed
- Whether Nvidia has officially responded to the case, and whether company-level compliance issues are involved.
- Jensen Huang previously stated publicly that "there is no evidence that Nvidia chips have been diverted to China," but three countries have opened cases this year contradicting that claim — this case is the latest.
Why It Matters
The case exposes enforcement gaps in US chip export controls on China and shows smuggling remains active. It also directly challenges Nvidia leadership's public statements, potentially influencing future adjustments to export control policy and enforcement intensity.
