Leaked macOS video shows camera-equipped AirPods running Visual Intelligence
A demo video uncovered by MacRumors in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 RC beta shows camera-equipped AirPods running Visual Intelligence for the first time: a user holds a book up to the earbuds, the camera recognizes the title, and Siri saves it without touching an iPhone. This confirms Apple is pushing ambient AI into the earbud form factor, with productization already well advanced.
Confirmed
- The leak comes from files inside macOS Tahoe 26.7 RC, first found by MacRumors and relayed by @tomwarren, @APPSO and others
- The video shows the new AirPods slightly thicker than AirPods Pro 3, with a camera for capturing low-resolution visual information, and demonstrates the full Visual Intelligence workflow
- @chrisfirst suggests the camera could be used for spatial video capture or augmented reality
- @gnukeith adds the hardware could let Siri "see" and remember the user's surroundings for smarter context-aware interaction
Unconfirmed
- Apple has not announced the product; timing, exact model and pricing remain unknown
Why it matters
- Analyst Carolina Milanesi noted Apple's huge AirPods installed base makes adopting this new form factor relatively cheap, creating a new entry point for Siri and Visual Intelligence
- Being closer to the wearer's perspective than a phone camera, earbud cameras open new hands-free possibilities for ambient AI interaction
