Doubao's Work Task Upgrades: GUI Control and Feishu Integration Take Aim at Codex

Between August 17 and 19, ByteDance's Doubao client shipped successive updates to its Work Task feature, and multiple reviewers judged the experience to be approaching OpenAI's Codex while targeting Feishu Workbuddy-style work assistants.

Confirmed

Doubao officially (@豆包) announced two new capabilities: direct Windows operation inside a virtual desktop environment, and remote PC control from a phone.
@dotey tested the update and found it increasingly Codex-like: Windows GUI operation via a virtual desktop lets a human and the AI use the computer simultaneously without interference, an improvement over Claude Code's Computer Use, which forces the user to wait.
@vista8's reviews show the client doubling down on work-task-first positioning with deep Feishu integration: generating and sharing websites from a single prompt, creating Feishu docs and PPTs via CLI, with both cloud and local operation; it also enhanced computer control, Skill management, connectors and companions, with built-in image generation, browser control and fast execution.
@vista8 demoed scenarios including auto-generated paper websites, PPT courseware, and a DeepSeek plugin.

Why it matters

The virtual desktop approach resolves the pain point of humans and AI fighting over control of the same machine, a substantive improvement in GUI Agent interaction design.
Remote phone control lets users launch and monitor long-running tasks anytime, expanding use cases.
Deep Feishu integration moves Doubao from chat assistant toward an enterprise workflow entry point, entering the same agentic-office arena as Workbuddy and Codex, sharpening domestic competition around "task execution + office ecosystem" integration.
