Claude Desktop Launches Record-a-Skill Feature

Anthropic's Claude Desktop app (Claude Cowork) recently launched a new feature called "Record a skill." This allows users to turn complex workflows into repeatable AI skills by recording their screen and explaining the process step-by-step, significantly lowering the barrier for custom workflow creation.

Confirmed

According to multiple sources, users can find this feature by clicking the "+" menu in the desktop app. While recording, users perform tasks while sharing their screen and providing voice narration. Claude automatically analyzes this demonstration and organizes it into a skill that can be called upon later. Blogger @rohanpaulai noted that this eliminates the need to manually write SKILL.md files and metadata. The feature is currently available to Pro, Max, and Team subscription plans.

Use Cases

As exemplified by blogger @TawohAwa, a user can simply say, "Run my weekly sales report skill," and the AI will automatically execute the previously recorded workflow. This compresses processes that usually require repetitive configuration into a single demonstration, making it ideal for repetitive office tasks like generating reports and processing data.
