Replit CEO Outlines the 'Self-Driving Company'
Replit CEO Amjad Masad has published a long essay, The Self-Driving Company, describing a new organizational model in which AI helps a company partially run itself. The post drew attention because it ties the concept to concrete operating data at Replit rather than treating it as a purely theoretical vision.
According to Masad, the point is not to replace employees with AI, but to redefine how work is divided between humans and AI systems. In his framing, people set goals, priorities, and bear final responsibility, while multiple AI agents handle information gathering, task execution, result verification, and routine collaboration.

Masad says that over the past six months, Replit engineers’ code output nearly tripled. He adds that code review time stayed roughly flat and reversions did not worsen. He also says the support team became 60% faster at resolving the hardest tickets, and that business data queries became as responsive as if an analyst were always available.
Masad further notes that this way of working kept moving forward even while he was away because of emergency lumbar surgery, which he presents as a practical sign that the system is becoming more self-sustaining.
