伯克利团队报告论证:前沿AI训练可被「硬接线暂停」

wfithian · x · 2026-10-23

A UC Berkeley working group led by statistics professor William Fithian and philosopher Wesley Holliday released a report on the feasibility of a hardwired pause of frontier AI training. Core argument: frontier training requires massive numbers of AI chips whose supply chain is governable, making verification and coordination possible. Co-authors span economics, political science, philosophy, and AI safety (Barry Eichengreen, Rose Gottemoeller, Kayla Blomquist, etc.). Fithian adds the tension: society could rationally endorse continued AI building, but people increasingly see the industry as endangering their lives and demand it stop — while the industry refuses.
