Separatrix 1.0 launches: free open-source desktop app for nonlinear dynamics
stevenstrogatz · x · 2026-11-09
Mathematician Steven Strogatz amplified the launch of Separatrix 1.0, a free, open-source (MIT) desktop app for exploring dynamical systems.
- Type ẋ = f(x, y) and get phase portraits, fixed-point classification, Lyapunov exponents, orbit diagrams and bifurcation analysis
- Drag a parameter to watch the phase portrait morph live; demos include a saddle-node bifurcation, Lorenz equations in 3D, and the logistic map
- One-click LaTeX export plus a projector mode
- Works fully offline on Mac/Win/Linux with installers across dmg, exe, MSI, AppImage, deb and rpm
