Owain Evans: now is the right time to switch into AI safety work
OwainEvans_UK · x · 2026-11-09
Notable AI safety researcher Owain Evans published a long call to action: AI progress is fast and many human tasks are being automated quickly. He argues the AI safety field is small and shifting so rapidly that many new areas lack experts, so newcomers can have positive impact fast. He cites strong pay (possibly better than your current job), talented colleagues, and many remote roles across technical, policy, and communication work. He says this is not a pitch for his own org, and while frontier-lab employees could switch internally, quitting is usually the better option.
