Grok Bot drops Opus 5.5, fingerprint tests suggest it now runs on OpenAI models
chrisfirst · x · 2026-11-09
Developer buildwithhassan reports Grok Bot stopped serving Opus 5.5: after noticing changed bot behavior, fingerprint tests came back as gpt-6-astra/6.1-sol. Musk had already admitted Grok Bot was too expensive to run, so migrating users off Opus was expected — the surprise is they chose an OpenAI model, seemingly with little alternative. chrisfirst calls it a major downgrade.
