macOS 27.3 lets Mac VMs use host GPU and Neural Engine, up to 7× faster Core AI
SumitGup · x · 2026-11-09
macOS 27.3 brings a major virtualization upgrade: Core AI inside Mac VMs can now use the host's GPU and Neural Engine. New paravirtualized paths run Core AI tasks up to 7× faster than the guest CPU, reaching 50–100% of native host speed. The post details setup: installing 27.3 on host and guest, building a VM host app with com.apple.security.virtualization and com.apple.private.virtualization entitlements (relaxing AMFI for the latter), adding VZMacCoreAIDeviceConfiguration and VZMacNeuralEngineDeviceConfiguration accelerators via setAcceleratorDevices, and enabling a feature flag in the guest. Caveat: the Core AI accelerator currently requires private APIs and a restricted entitlement.
