NVIDIA's SIGGRAPH 2026 paper DAT delivers penetration-free contact for cloth, soft bodies and robots
zhengyiluo · x · 2026-11-09
NVIDIA researchers present Divide and Truncate (DAT) at SIGGRAPH 2026: a unified framework for penetration-free, inversion-free contact resolution across rigid bodies, soft volumes, thin shells, rods, cloth, and yarn-level structures. Planar-DAT removes artificial damping and deadlocks; the method is material-agnostic and works as a post-processing step with any iterative optimizer. It's integrated into the VBD solver of Newton, NVIDIA's open-source GPU physics engine for robotics and Physical AI.
