Indian "built in India" Alpie 9B exposed as a near bit-for-bit copy of Qwen3.5-9B
dotey · x · 2026-11-09
169Pi launched Alpie Seed, a 9B multimodal model billed as "built in India," touting 82.54% MMLU-Pro, 84.32% GPQA Diamond, 72.99% LiveCodeBench v6 and 61.20% SWE-Bench Verified. But inspection shows the architecture is a full copy of Qwen3.5-9B, the tokenizer vocab untouched, and weights nearly bit-for-bit identical — the only difference is an identitypolicy injected every turn in the chat template instructing the model to claim it was built by 169Pi and comes from India. The chattemplate.jinja is verifiable on Hugging Face.
