Ericsson turns existing 5G towers into a drone detection system, pilots in 2027

Ericsson announced its Integrated Sensing and Communication System, which reads radio reflections from multiple cell sites to detect and track drones for factories, airports and ports. In July, Ericsson and AT&T tracked drones at 300–400 feet outside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas using existing towers; earlier demos ran in Helsinki and Kraków (paired with acoustic detection). Small sensing pilots with selected customers are expected in 2027, broader deployments in 2028.
