AI Coding Doesn't Remove Engineering — It Moves It Up a Layer

With even mid-tier models, a durable plan, and a decent validation loop, you can build a ridiculous amount now. But AI-assisted coding doesn't remove engineering — it moves it up a layer: less typing code, more defining architecture, boundaries, context, tests, failure handling, and what "done" means.
No-code survives prototypes and narrow production workflows until edge cases "start collecting rent" — then custom code, observability, replayable tests and durable project context matter. The jump from demo to real system isn't better prompts; it's ensuring the agent knows its scope, fails safely, reproduces what went wrong, and doesn't forget why the system was built the way it was.
