Satire: Robotics Paper Works Backwards From a Viral Video Idea
Sentdex · x · 2026-11-08
Sentdex posts a fictional dialogue mocking the publication culture in robotics/embodied AI research: to make a splash, a team starts from a shocking visual (a robot stabbing a baby), then works backwards — just edit the video so it isn't a baby — and pads it into a paper with only four paragraphs of substance, lots of references and charts, banking on a friend at CoRL to greenlight it.
The whole thing is an industry self-meme about papers optimizing for shareability over substance.
