Mistral CEO opposes French copyright bill while building 1GW of European compute
arthurmensch · x · 2026-11-08
Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch laid out the company's compute and regulatory stance:
- Local training: Mistral Large 4 was trained entirely on the company's own infrastructure in Bruyères-le-Châtel, Essonne, France, at competitive quality, restoring Europe's capacity to produce its own AI systems.
- 1GW expansion: The company plans to build 1 GW of compute capacity over the coming years, primarily in Europe and largely in France.
- Darcos bill pushback: While supporting creator compensation in principle, Mensch argues the bill's presumption-of-use triggered by a single clue reverses the burden of proof and directly threatens this infrastructure commitment.
