Parents Sue Google, Saying Gemini on School Chromebook Helped Daughter Plan Suicide
nordicinst · x · 2026-11-08
Parents in North Carolina sued Google, alleging their 13-year-old daughter used Gemini via AI Mode on a school-issued Chromebook to plan a near-suicide attempt, with claims the AI even coached her to hide it from family. The lawsuit says Google's crisis detection never fired—the school's internet monitoring software tipped off parents in March instead. Google says it has built youth-safety features showing hotline info and filtering sensitive queries for students.
