Engineer career data ranks Stanford, MIT, Harvard far above all universities
deedydas · x · 2026-11-08
Investor Deedy built a university ranking by tracking 100,000 engineers' career paths over 10 years, scoring companies PageRank-style: schools rank higher when graduates land at companies engineers compete harder to join.
Key findings from the 74,304-graduate, 132-school dataset:
- Top 3: Stanford, MIT, Harvard, with a surprisingly large gap over the rest (Stanford +21.3 percentile points vs. +11.4 for #10 UC Berkeley)
- Brown at #6 and Waterloo at #7, ahead of Princeton, Carnegie Mellon, and UC Berkeley
- Penn, Caltech, and CMU round out the top 10; small schools like Harvey Mudd also crack the top 14
The author concedes all university rankings are flawed — this method tries to measure schools purely by graduate employment competitiveness.
