Dev open-sources local ElevenReader clone: on-device TTS reading for Mac and iPhone
ethanniser · x · 2026-11-08
Developer @ethanniser has open-sourced local-reader, a personal reading library app that serves as a clone of Eleven Labs Reader / Readwise Reader. It uses the locally-run Kokoro neural speech model to read articles aloud on Mac and iPhone—no cloud speech API, no subscription. Features include streaming audio, word-level highlighting, saved progress, adjustable playback speed, and cross-device sync. MIT licensed, with iOS, desktop, browser extension and server modules in the repo.
