OpenAI mass-deletes accounts without warning as device limits, card quotas and API gateway ban take hold
新智元 · wechat · 2026-11-07
OpenAI abruptly deleted large numbers of ChatGPT accounts — including paying Plus, Pro and Team subscribers — with no email or explanation, hitting Turkey/Philippines-region accounts, shared "carpool" accounts, and unofficial API relays hardest.
- Users report years of chat history and memory locked in the cloud; many flooded ex-Codex lead Tibo's replies. OpenAI officially attributes it to payment channel issues (specific Mastercard BINs affected).
- This is step two of a squeeze: since Nov 2, OpenAI caps subscriptions per card/device; from Nov 20, third-party API gateways need written authorization; from December, ChatGPT and Codex share one token-based quota, ending workarounds via extra accounts.
- Affected users can appeal via the official form with their Request ID; backing up sessions and syncing Codex projects locally is advised.
