Mitchell Hashimoto announced libghostty 1.0: a portable, high-performance C library for terminal emulation extracted from Ghostty's core, with both the library and C ABI now stable.
- Adoption: The terminal in all JetBrains IDEs (IntelliJ, PyCharm, GoLand, etc.) now runs on libghostty, serving over 12.5 million active users. Neovim has an approved PR replacing libvterm with libghostty-vt, closing a 10-year-old reflow issue. KDE devs are experimenting with a Konsole replacement, and Vercel's Turborepo, devenv, and Antithesis use it in production.
- Significance: A year ago there was no C API; today it runs across hundreds of free and commercial products with an enforced ABI stability policy.
