Scaling 1 to 100 AI agents: the engineering groundwork that actually matters
goyalshaliniuk · x · 2026-11-07
A practical thread on scaling multi-agent systems: going from 1 to 100 agents isn't about counting agents but about infrastructure for coordination, control, observability, and reliability. Before scaling an agent fleet, the author lists prerequisites — clear task ownership, reliable state management, controlled tool access, fault-tolerant execution, end-to-end monitoring — and warns that 100 agents don't guarantee 100x productivity. At scale, observability, security, and cost control get much harder: tracing failures across agents, spotting token-hungry workflows, and preventing unauthorized tool access require distributed tracing and per-agent cost tracking.
