Physician engineers on the rise: 20% of this AI lab holds dual MD-engineering backgrounds
DrDatta_AIIMS · x · 2026-11-07
The head of CRASHLab AI and the KCDH centre says their lab now has one of the highest densities of physician scientists and physician engineers: 20% of members are physician engineers, 30% physician scientists, with the rest across non-clinical research, clinical, engineering, product and admin roles.
The author sees a growing trend of people pursuing dual medicine-engineering paths. Quoted Stanford researcher @vishnuravi notes he not only works in this field but also trains future physician engineers at Stanford — a sign of rising demand for hybrid talent at the AI-healthcare intersection.
