Uber's busiest week saw ~500 agent orders out of 320M transactions

Uber's CFO revealed that in its busiest week of the quarter, third-party AI assistants drove roughly four rides; Uber Eats saw about 500 agent orders against 320 million total transactions. DoorDash says external assistants have sent it a few hundred orders total — evidence agent commerce is massively overhyped.
The author argues the deeper issue:
- Preferences form during browsing: hunger isn't an instruction; scrolling, photos and second thoughts shape what you want. Browsing does two jobs — showing options and shaping desire. An agent can execute a decision but has nothing to execute when the decision doesn't exist yet.
- Prescription refills fit agents; holidays, homes and Friday nights don't — discovering the instruction is most of the work.
- Whatever an agent surfaces, omits or frames as sensible becomes part of how your preference forms. It can obey perfectly after helping you decide what to ask for.
- Uber says orders built with its own assistant are 2x average size — incentives of an assistant rewarded for making you spend more deserve scrutiny.
