In a TBPN interview, Dawallach argues China's rise in drug development could disrupt biopharma more than AI: over 5-10 years China invested heavily in early-stage discovery and preclinical outsourced work at roughly a quarter of US cost. Quality is outstanding — much of it done by Chinese scientists who earned PhDs in the US. Big pharma now sources double-digit percentages of new drugs from China, making it the lifeblood of the industry's pipeline.
