Acronis Threat Research Unit (TRU) has disclosed a campaign dubbed BOSSAI: a single hacker orchestrated a 12-agent AI attack mesh targeting hundreds of organizations across 11 countries, including government emergency services, banks, universities, military systems, e-commerce and gambling sites.
- Confirmed breaches exposed medical and personal data at universities and emergency service providers.
- Commercial AI models refused the hacking requests, pushing the attacker toward weaker local models.
- Researchers say the campaign proves one individual can now run operations that once required a full team.
- The attacker's affiliation and goals remain unclear, presumably monetization-driven.
